With today being World Autism Awareness Day, I wanted to share a very touching story.
during the early going of his Presidential Campaign, Governor Mike Huckabee gave his campaign life when, at a debate, he was quoted, “We’ve got a congress who spends money like John Edwards at a beauty shop!” The joke being directed towards John Edwards and his $400 trips to the beauty parlor.
Fast-forward to early October of 2007. The coffers of the Huckabee campaign are filled with more dust than dollars (HuckaBoom hadn’t happened yet). On that day Mike was passing through Concord, NH to have his hair cut. The barber shop was giving haircuts for donations to fight autism. While the money could have been put to use for his financially-struggling campaign, Governor Huckabee laid down $400 to fight autism, with very little fan fare (except this video a supporter took and posted on Youtube.

When I speak of reaching out to the disabled this is exactly what I am talking about. It is a shame that this selfless act did not get broadcast to the world in the media. It touched my heart deeply and convinced me I was backing the right man for President in 2008. We need more people in the Conservative movement like Governor Huckabee.
