Tuesday night’s election results were a mixed bag of success and defeat that left both sides of the political spectrum claiming victory with 2012 looming on the horizon. One 2 of our candidates were successfully elected to office on Tuesday, Phil Bryant as Mississippi’s new Governor and Lynn Fitch as Mississippi’s new State Treasurer. Another success was that Ohioans voted against the Obamacare mandate and we definitely applaud that (while sadly overturning the passed law that limited collective bargaining for public-sector unions that has been and now will continue to suck the coffers dry at state and local level).
The biggest disappointment of the evening was definitely the Personhood Amendment that failed in Mississippi. However, over a quarter Million citizens declared with their vote that life begins at conception, despite a heavy smear campaign by Planned Parenthood. The effort to get Personhood on the ballot is a very new one and we are glad that to hear that those in charge of the effort in Mississippi are not deterred and will try again. We will fight with them from day one next time.
There were excellent candidates who did not win and policy ideas that failed at the ballot box on Tuesday but as 2012 draws near, regardless of outcome our fight continues and our resolve is steadfast. The endorsing and support of solid Conservative candidates will continue as we must increase the Conservative ranks in The House and a hopefully Republican Controlled Senate to work with a Conservative President (or to keep an Establishment Republican accountable), as we definitely need to defeat the destructive polices of our current President.
As one of our elected States Reps in Iowa, Tom Shaw, likes to say – “We must endeavor to persevere”. We must and we will!
